The Wifflefist collective first became acquainted with the boys of Negativland sometime in 1992. Both parties enjoyed sharing resources and ideas with each other. The concept of this show was based on Negativland's weekly West Coast radio show "Over the Edge" on KPFA in Berkeley. We were interested in how North Carolina listeners would respond to 90 minutes of noise and silliness as opposed to those on the West Coast. David Wills was excited to be a part of whatever we decided to do, and we were all delighted with the results. You will hear...

Silica Gel: samplers, tape loops, shortwave radio, records, and big electronic toys

The Weatherman (David Wills): scanner, shortwave radio, tapes, and live microphone

Along with the voice of Jason Summers, our host and confidant, and, of course, the callers.

None of this would have been possible without the cooperation of WXYC 89.3 FM Chapel Hill, NC, who throughout the years supported Wifflefist projects.

All proceeds of sales of the released tape went to WXYC.

Be clean, be neat, and enjoy.

Special "hi-ho" to Jeff Robins for recording this.

    Artwork included with album download.

Hey some new stuff as of 12/2/21! Polycarp, Unprepared Piano, and F. Squill!

Wifflefist was a bunch of people who got together to do stuff - audio stuff, live performance stuff, film stuff, and video stuff. The collective existed from roughly 1990 - 1998, with membership primarily from the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill parts of North Carolina. ... more
